Pico launch is generally a small, NOTAM exempt (&lt; 2 meters diameter at any point) balloon. I&#8217;ve obtained some 36&#8243; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.randomengineering.co.uk\">Qualatex Foil balloons from\u00a0http:\/\/www.randomengineering.co.uk<\/a>. These can lift about 60g to about 4km and will, hopefully, float.<\/p>\n<p>Taking the existing board and breaking out the hot wire cutter I set about making a very small but insulated container for the board out of expanded polystyrene :<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/?attachment_id=449\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-449\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-449\" alt=\"IMG_1058\" src=\"\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1058-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1058-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1058-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a>The single AA was mounted centrally, a small piece of thin foam insulated this from the PCB which was placed on top. An external battery connector was installed and then the radials were added directly to the board made from CAT5 cable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/?attachment_id=450\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-450\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-450\" alt=\"IMG_1060\" src=\"\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1060-768x1024.jpg\" width=\"620\" height=\"826\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1060-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1060-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a>Finally the top was hot glued in place the result is 27g :<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/?attachment_id=451\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-451\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-451\" alt=\"IMG_1062\" src=\"\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1062-768x1024.jpg\" width=\"620\" height=\"826\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1062-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ava.upuaut.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1062-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a>I hope to launch this next weekend but very subject to weather.
